The rupture of relations between the Petro government and the State of Israel is just one more link in the attitude of an administration that from the beginning aligned itself with the terrorists of Hamas, without ever condemning the cowardly genocide that in a few hours ended the lives of more than twelve hundred Israelis. In the same period, more than 240 kidnappings occurred, particularly of children, women, and the elderly, many of whom still remain unjustly captive in the Gaza Strip since October seventh. And whose “sin,” whether as motivation for the massacre or for the infamous captivity, is precisely being Jews, as proclaimed from the beginning by the racist hordes of Hamas, devoid of the slightest trace of humanity and acting as puppets of Iran.
From that perspective, it should not be a surprise that amid the May Day celebrations, President Gustavo Petro used the platform granted by some unions in Bolívar Square to officially announce the diplomatic break with Israel. After all, relations had been implicitly broken for several months due to the untimely government alignment, purportedly in favor of life, which has been accommodating these systematic acts of death, blood, and terror perpetrated by Hamas. And that, despite the profound mental jumble and the schizophrenic reasons put forward in the Casa de Nariño, still deserve worldwide condemnation for being widely demonstrative of contempt for International Humanitarian Law, Human Rights Law, and, ultimately, the law of nations.
Of course, the temporary holders of Colombian diplomatic relations proceeding in that direction does not mean, at all, that the people and our country cease to be part of what has been Colombia’s permanent international policy: the recognition of the State of Israel and the creation of a Palestinian state. On the first point, it is clear that even with the abrupt governmental decisions of this moment, that recognition remains fully intact, despite the political weakening sought by the palace courtiers and ministers in the wake of Hamas. But, even with the rupture of relations, the creation of the State of Israel and its autonomous development are irreversible facts in Colombian international policy. This is precisely what Hamas does not want, as its raison d’être is to murder Jews and destroy the State of Israel. So, not condemning its actions, and now proceeding to the rupture of Colombian-Israeli relations, is to ingratiate oneself with that terrorist grotesque, in violation of all world legislation in pursuit of humanity and life.
For its part, the establishment of a Palestinian state, as conceived in the mid-20th century by the UN, has not been possible precisely because of the colossal aggressions suffered by Israel over the last 70 years, from the initial legal resolution, a behavior now led by the terrorism of Hamas, precisely the main obstacle in the aspirations to achieve a peaceful and developed Palestinian state. And so it has happened, even leading to the failure of the Oslo Accords, which allowed the establishment of the Palestinian Authority, making it perfectly clear that they are also a gigantic impediment to peace and harmony.
Israel has had to assume, after such a demonstration of barbarism carried out by Hamas, legitimate defense in order to guarantee its survival as a state and as an entity responsible for sheltering and protecting its inhabitants, which led to a national unity government, led by Benjamin Netanyahu, that commits all the political sectors that make up the spectrum of the vigorous and multifaceted Israeli democracy. During the course of this legitimate defense, the Israeli state has even accepted, on several occasions, to proceed with the exchange of prisoners for the release of the kidnapped, but Hamas always keeps something of the inhuman loot. This has undoubtedly been a terrible time in which Israel, in order to regain control of Gaza from the terrorists, has found that they have used the Palestinian population as a shield in order to cowardly take refuge, even camouflaging their arsenals in hospitals and sacrificing the Gazans themselves.
Disagreeing with Netanyahu may be part of the democratic debate, especially when he somehow favored the emergence of Hamas with a view to a supposed appeasement in the area. But to think that by ending Colombian-Israeli relations, a civilized solution is favored against the terrorist and barbaric fervor of that disgraceful group is, of course, absurd, unless one wants to consolidate the axis with Iran once and for all.
