Should organs transplants be left for the medical field or used as political instruments or for the media to sell?

What is organ transplantation?

An organ transplant is a surgical operation where a failing or damaged organ in the human body is removed and replaced with a new one. An organ is a mass of specialized cells and tissues that work together to perform a function in the body. The heart is an example of an organ. It is made up of tissues and cells that all work together to perform the function of pumping blood through the human body. The procedures involved to accomplish a succesfull transplant are very complex, but certainly the donor has to be healthy and the organ in question in full potential to function in the new host, which implies that it cannot be taken of a dead body.

I recently read in Carl Bild’s the Swedish Foreign Ministers blog an interesting comment on what became a major diplomatic confrontation between the Israeli and Swedish ministries and that has with it caused a global discussion on an issue that is strictly MEDICAL. Caused by the publication in a swedish newspaper claming that the IDF was part of a network  of organ trafficking taken from palestinians to be used in transplantations in the US.

As very intelligently my collegue from Gotenburg Benjamin Gerber interereted and said in Swedish public TV. Information in NJ was missused by the reporter from Aftonbladet who in a completly absurd and unproved theory and taking advantage of the fact that a rabbi in New Jersey was part of a scandal investigated by the FBI in the US and that would support the reporter’s book published more that 17 years ago, were he also claimed the same thing.

Benji’s article can be read in swedish at his blog:

In English I summarize:

From AP July 24 2009, NEWARK — Levy Izhak Rosenbaum of Brooklyn called himself a “matchmaker,” but his business wasn’t romance. Instead, authorities say, he brokered the sale of black-market kidneys, buying organs from vulnerable people from Israel for $10,000 and selling them to desperate patients in the U.S. for as much as $160,000.

The alleged scheme exposed this week by an FBI sting, rocked the nation’s transplant industry. If true, it would be the first documented case of organ trafficking in the U.S., transplant experts said today

There, you have it! writes Benji.

What has Rosenbaum (that if he is obliged to the accusations about body trade is anti ethical and criminal) to do with something that is claimed have happened Palestinians 17 years ago?

Jews and bodies.

The link for Boström and Aftonbladet, that unambiguous defends the publication,  is clear. The impression one buys are that Jews steal bodies from non Jews and send them around in an international jewish organ trade network. Rosenbaum is not Israeli and had nothing to do with Palestinians. He sold to rich people (mostly Jews) in the US who needed kidneys, but he had nothing to do with what Boström claims himself  has seen in the Middle East! I say it again: there, the boundaries go over to clear anti-Semitism.

And the comment I referred to at the beginning of this post;

I copied it as well here:
Give the The Nobel Prize in Medicine to the Israeli Army!

In the Swedish paper Aftonbladet (a paper with absolutely no several decades long history of anti-semitism… Over and over and over again…), the not even the slightest anti-semitic freelance writer Donald Boström, tells the story of how a young Palestinian was shot first in the breast and later in the stomach and legs, before the corps was dragged away by the Israeli army.

Five days later the corps was returned. According to the always 100 % neutral and truthful Palestinian sources, the organs had been removed to be transplanted.

(Up until now organs were considered to be delicate, and had to have blood and oxygen to work. Because of this, organ donation used to occur in hospitals, where specially trained doctors and nurses could remove them. All of this is now history!)

We should all thank the honorable chief editor of Aftonbladet Jan Helin, who fortunately decided to publish this scientific breakthrough, on how the Israeli army secretly has developed a method to use dead internal organs, shot with assault rifles, in transplantations. Thanks to the responsible free press, we now have a sure winner of the Noble Prize of Medicine – The Israeli Army!

Just to show once more how absurd it is to have a theory published in a national newspaper in the country that so proudly awards advances in medicine.
